Why Max Verstappen Stayed at Red Bull

Max Verstappen has extended his Red Bull contract through 2030.

At first, his decision may seem surprising. Mercedes was widely considered a possible destination for 2027.

But when you look at the grid, the reason becomes clear.

The three major alternatives are already full.

Mercedes has Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
Ferrari has Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
McLaren has Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

So where could Verstappen realistically go?

Aston Martin is an interesting long-term possibility with Adrian Newey and Honda, but the team has not yet proven that it can fight for the World Championship.

For Verstappen, leaving Red Bull for an uncertain project would make little sense.

Instead, he has chosen to stay and try to rebuild Red Bull under the new regulations.

After winning four consecutive World Championships, Verstappen now faces a different challenge:

Can he bring Red Bull back to the top?

With the leading teams already committed to their driver line-ups, staying at Red Bull may simply have been the best option available.

And that makes the 2027 season even more interesting.
